Nintendo vs Sony vs Microsoft: Who Has Sold the Most Games?

It’s an argument that, if you’re in any way a member of the gaming community, that you’ve found yourself suckered into more than once: which gaming company is more popular. For some, Sony’s exclusive titles such as the ps1/ps2 era Final Fantasies, to the Grand Theft Auto series, takes the cake. For other’s, the fact that Microsoft has Halo makes them the best. And for some, the strength of Mario and company propels Nintendo to number one.

What we’ve got here is a shut out, with Nintendo taking top billing by a wide margin. Here’s a list of the top five selling videogames for the major consoles of the past twenty years:

SONY

The top 5 best-selling PlayStation video games.

  1. Gran Turismo (10.85 million shipped)
  2. Final Fantasy VII (9.8 million, includes Final Fantasy VII International)
  3. Gran Turismo 2 (9.37 million shipped)
  4. Final Fantasy VIII (8.15 million)
